Dr. Padwa's reseach profile 1999 - Prospective study of the variables associated with developing velopharyngeal insufficiency after LeFort I osteotomy to treat maxillary hypoplasia in cleft lip/palate patients
Harvard Medical School summer research fellowship, N.I.H. short-term training fellowship
Milton Fund (in conjunction with Dr. Carla Evans), Harvard Medical School
Fred A. Henny Fellowship for the study of Single Photon Emission Computer Tomography to assess facial growth
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Student Research Training Award for a student mentee to study facial growth after premaxillary osteotomy in patients with bilateral cleft lip and palate
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation Sulzer Calcitek Student Research Training Award for a student mentee to study mandibular asymmetry in patients with posterior deformational plagiocephaly
- Pursue collaborative basic science investigation into the etiopathogenesis of infiltrating lipomatosis, an asymmetric craniofacial anomaly. The results may provide insight into the causes of other overgrowth syndromes. This information will lay the groundwork to apply for funding to study a variety of overgrowth conditions.
- Document mandibular growth in patients with Robin sequence. This data is useful in determining treatment of airway obstruction in infants.
- Study facial growth in patients with clefts of the primary palate and intact secondary palate. This has not been previously studied and the results are important in treatment planning young patients who have not completed growth.
- Document the stability of skeletal changes, facial growth and airway improvement that occurs with midface distraction osteogenesis.
